Clinical Psychologist
Allys Johnson
Welcome to Allys Johnson Psychology!

With over 11 years of experience as a Clinical Psychologist, I’ve had the honor of working with children, adolescents, adults, and their caregivers in the Rockhampton Region.

My journey into psychology was fueled by my curiosity about human behavior and my personal experiences with ADHD. I understand the challenges of school and learning difficulties firsthand, which drives my passion for helping others embrace their differences. I’ve always been an advocate for the wellbeing of others, bringing a deep sense of empathy and a non-judgmental approach to my work.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked across private, Government, and non-Government sectors. My early work in disability support, followed by my role at Disability Services, allowed me to support clients with significant disabilities and complex behaviors during critical reforms in Queensland’s restrictive practices. These experiences have shaped my understanding and commitment to providing compassionate and effective care.

At the core of my practice are the values of Connection, Growth, Collaboration, and Inclusion. I believe in taking the time to listen and help clients piece together their life stories, understanding how their experiences have shaped them. My approach is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps clients become aware of their behavior patterns and make changes that align with their values and goals. I see the client as the expert in their own life, and my role is to assist them in this journey.

In my sessions, you’ll find a relaxed atmosphere where you can truly be yourself. Whether it’s shoes off, sitting on the floor, or using fidgets and games, my space is designed to be warm and inviting. I believe it’s okay to make mistakes – it’s how we respond and grow from them that matters.

I take immense pride in the feedback from my clients, especially their appreciation for my non-judgmental stance and the skills they develop through our work together. I believe that everyone is capable of positive change, despite life’s challenges.

Beyond therapy, I am passionate about education and training. I enjoy providing psychoeducation in a way that is logical and easy to understand, making complex concepts accessible. My interests also include being creative, dancing, watching movies, and spending time with my family, especially in the pool or at the beach.
